A Heroic Approach to Child Protection Education
A Talk by Elser Llanos (Vice President of Programmes, A Chance In Life)
About this Talk
This presentation will delve into the collaborative journey of two organizations in the successful implementation of a child protection policy within a school in Venezuela. A Chance In Life, a nonprofit organization rooted in New York and established in Italy in 1945, is dedicated to empowering marginalized and at-risk youth across the globe through education, healthcare, comprehensive support services, and leadership development training. This holistic approach is known as Positive Youth Development. In tandem with grassroots organizations, A Chance In Life extends its support through financial grants and capacity-building initiatives. Since 2022, A Chance In Life has started supporting three local organizations in Venezuela. One of A Chance In Life's primary objectives is to make sure that the local organizations offer a safe environment for children and young people, and this involves aiding our partner organizations in the development of child protection policies that align with KCS four standards. In this context, in February 2023, we assisted Colegio Sagrada Familia, situated in Los Teques, Venezuela, in crafting a robust child protection policy. Subsequently, they employed a creative and engaging approach, using the symbolism of a superhero to make the child protection policy accessible to their youngest students. In this narrative, the child protection officer becomes a superhero, enhancing the children's understanding of this crucial policy. This unique collaboration highlights the power of partnership in safeguarding the well-being of young individuals. By sharing our experiences and innovative strategies, we hope to inspire and inform others about effective child protection practices. Through this presentation, we aim to showcase how cooperation and creativity can drive the implementation of child protection policies, ensuring a safer environment for children in educational settings.
